Glass
Ellen’s latest work consists of glass vases and slim figures.
The glass is oven melted glass and therefore not created by blowing or fusing. This technique is very laborious.
First a model is sculpted in sculpting wax. A special mould is created around this model which will be melted out of it. This mould and pieces of special glass will go into the oven with a specific
programme for glass.
The programme can take up to several weeks, depending on the
measurements of the sculpture. Several sculptures will get extra lighting, which is done by LED-lights.
Working with glass offers a whole new challenge. In it she looks for the boundaries of what is possible in form and colour. Glass is not always as willing as bronze and it definitely has qualities that binds working with it to certain rules. But this is what makes glass an exiting material to work with and gives an extra feeling of fulfillment when a work of art lives up to its expectations when it comes out of the oven.
